New North Melbourne coach Brad Scott reckons Lindsay Thomas will be targeted when the Kangaroos meet Port Adelaide at Docklands this Sunday.
Thomas was pivotal in the Kangaroos’ 29-point win over Carlton last Friday.
He amassed 20 disposals and kicked 7 goals and 5 behinds.
Scott said he expected Port Adelaide’s Jacob Surjan to be handed the defensive contract on Thomas.
“Surjan’s a very good defender and has been in good form the last couple of years,” he was reported as saying.
“So whether it’s him or another Port defender, Lindsay’s going to have to be on his game.
“But, we’re just after him to continue to play his role for the team. He got the rewards last week and we hope that if he doesn’t this week, another player will.”
Scott, whose contract expires in 2012, was appointed coach after Dean Laidley resigned after more than six years in the role.
Damien Hardwick was in the running for the senior coaching job at the Roos, but Scott got the appointment.
Scott played 168 AFL games with Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions and was a dual premiership player with the Lions in 2001 and 2002.
He retired in 2006 and has been on the Magpies coaching staff since then, first as ‘Development Coach’ and more recently as ‘Midfield Coach’.
Scott’s appointment as North Melbourne Senior coach from 2010-2012 is his first senior coaching role.
