North Melbourne have thrown away a chance to cement their fourth spot position on the ladder with a 76-point loss to Port Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
Port Adelaide were led by a brilliant 45 disposals from Peter Burygone as his team won 23.10 (148) to 10.12 (72).
The Roos were hit with an eight-goal third quarter effort by the Power, who continued the onslaught with five goals in the last term. North Melbourne’s inform star Brent Harvey was the only player to hurt the Power in any way.
Port Adelaide however had contributions from David Rodan, booting five goals , talented forward Daniel Motlop finishing with three, and Kayne Cornes picking up a handy 30 possessions.
North Melbourne will only retain fourth spot if Adelaide, Sydney and St Kilda all lose their matches this weekend. The loss could be a blessing in disguise for the Roos, with fourth spot set to play the rampaging Cats in the first qualfying final in September.
