The North Melbourne Football Club will lose midfielder Liam Anthony for an extended period of time and will undergo a full shoulder reconstruction.
The club this week said the talented 22-year-old was likely to spend 3 months on the sidelines.
Anthony sustained the injury after a massive collision at the MCG with a Collingwood player last Saturday night and will have surgery some time this week.
It is the second serious injury setback for the youngster in his short career, where he has played every game for North Melbourne this season.
Anthony debuted in 2009 when he was poised to play in the opening round after a solid preseason, but a stress fracture in his foot delayed his first game until round 13.
He played out the season in the senior side and in his 17 AFL matches so far, has never picked up fewer than 16 touches.
Meanwhile, Ben Ross, another budding youngster will need an operation on his pubic bone followed by another on his hip to repair an ongoing groin complaint.
The club said Ross needs two operations - one on his pubic bone followed by another on his hip - to repair an ongoing groin complaint. Ross has missed the club’s past five games.
The Roos’ injury list has growth a number of players out: Ben Speight (broken jaw); Matt Campbell (ankle); Aaron Black (groin); Levi Greenwood (hamstring); Gavin Urquhart (knee); Drew Petrie (broken foot); Luke Delaney (broken wrist); Liam Anthony (shoulder); Ben Ross (groin/hip).
