Hawthorn has continued its purple patch after last nigh downing Essendon by 16 points at the MCG.

In what was a thrilling clash at the G, the Hawk’s winning streak protracted to six after a final quarter that was nothing less than remarkable.

Lance Franklin was king of the ground, booting five majors, gaining 26 disposals and 10 marks as the Hawks soared home to a 14.18 (102) to 13.8 (86) victory.

Franklin, who was defended by Bomber defender Cale Hooker, seemed unstoppable, albeit Hooker had his first game back from a hamstring injury.

If FootyGoss’s calculations are correct, Buddy Franklin has now amassed 40 goals against Essendon in the last seven of their encounters.

Speaking after the match, Franklin said the win was a tough one as the Bombers are a solid team that run hard.

He said the Hawks were prepared for a final quarter assault from Essendon.

The Hawks have clung to eighth spot on the AFL ladder.
