Hawthorn coach Alistair Clarkson’s cryptic post game comments have caused a please explain letter from the AFL.
Clarkson was thought to be criticising the umpiring after Friday night’s loss to Geelong when he commented on a number 17 for Geelong.
“He’s a good player that number 17, wasn’t he? He’s a ripper.”
The only number 17 on the field was umpire Schmitt as the cat’s number 17 wasn’t playing.
Clarkson has until the end of this week to convince the league he does not deserve a fine of around $5000.
