GEELONG coach Mark Thompson has denied he is trying to pressure star midfielder Gary Ablett in to making a decision on where he will play next season.
There is constant speculation Ablett, the pre-eminent player in the competition, could join the new Gold Coast team next season.
In what would be a difficult carrot to ignore, Gold Coast could, in reality, pay Ablett twice as much as he is currently receiving at the Cats.
Geelong will be keen for Ablett’s decision to come soon, but it is not proving a distraction as the Cats sit on top of the ladder, with a 7-2 win-loss record.
“I just don’t want to say too much because I feel like I get bashed over the head I open my mouth. I think it’s a little bit unfair,†Thompson said today, as reported by afl.com.au.
“Everybody’s got a comment about Gary Ablett but, to be honest, our players just want to concentrate on this year when Gary’s here.
“We’re going to try and get the best out of him and let’s hope it doesn’t distract Gary too much.â€
