According to the Cats president Frank Costa, star young midfielder Joel Selwood should not be rushed into captaining the side, saying that Cameron Ling will be a better option after current captain Tom Harley hangs up the boots.

Costa said that in his personal view, Selwood was way to young to captain the side at just 20.

Costa added that Ling is a natural leader out on the field, as he has demonstrated when he was the captain during the NAB cup, as well as in his vice-captaincy over the past few seasons.

Selwood looks certain to one day lead the team, already boasting a premiership medallion, the AFL’s rising star award in his debut season in 2007, and most recently the best on ground award in the NAB Cup grand final.
