REIGNING AFL premier Geelong will be holding a training session at EFTel Oval in Lathlain from 3.00 to 4.00pm tomorrow, ahead of its NAB pre-season fixture against Fremantle on Saturday.
The Cats are expected to have a near-full strength squad, which will include Brownlow medallists Gary Ablett and Jimmy Bartel, as well as Norm Smith medallist Paul Chapman and hardnosed midfielder Joel Selwood.
Perth Football Club CEO Brian Leys was unsure whether the big names would be at the session, but said he was still rapt to have the league’s champions at the club’s headquarters.
“It’s always good to get any exposure, which will promote the football club, and I think having the Cats training on our home ground will provide that,†he said.
Perth league, reserves and colts players are expected to watch the training session from the stands, while all club members and fans alike are welcome to watch as well.
“They (Perth players) have all been invited to attend, and I think it will be a fantastic opportunity for them to see the AFL’s elite players, like Gary Ablett do what they do best,†Mr Leys said.
Meanwhile, Fremantle has added draftees Justin Bollenhagen and Jesse Crichton for what could be their first appearances for the club, while ruckman Aaron
Sandilands, Des Headland, Luke McPharlin and Chris Mayne have also been named.
Headland returns after missing two weeks with a hamstring strain, while McPharlin and Sandilands were rested for last week’s NAB Cup semi-final loss to the Saints.
The addition of Mayne, who kicked five goals in the win over the Kangaroos two weeks ago, will boost Fremantle’s forward line.
New draftees Nat Fyfe, Dylan Roberton and Alex Silvagni come out of last week’s squad along with Ben Bucovaz and Matthew de Boer.
