Trying conditions at Skilled Stadium in Geelong this afternoon made for a scrappy affair which eventually saw the Cats get over the line against Adelaide by a margin of 43 points.
Adelaide were in the game at half time trailing by only two points after having much of the early running.
The second half saw Geelong's midfield take over as they seemed to adapt to the conditions better with the added motivation of Ben Graham's 200th game. The Cats kicked ten goals to Adelaide's four in the second half.
Cameron Ling dominated the match and was clearly best on ground finishing with 26 possessions and three goals.
Browlow medalist Mark Riccuito had a quiet day for Adelaide with only 14 possessions as did Andrew McLeod who only had seven possessions.
Wayne Carey was also quiet with only six possessions, two marks and two goals.
Brett Burton was outstanding for the Crows picking up 32 possessions and nine marks.
Gary Ablett kicked three goals for the Cats while Darren Milburn picked up 20 possessions.
Geelong play Hawthorn at Telstra Dome next Sunday night while Adelaide will take on Port Adelaide in the Showdown.
