Versatile Fremantle Docker Luke McPharlin is determined to stamp his mark this season, coming off a disappointing 2009 in defence.
As reported on the club’s website recently, McPharlin was unable to shine last season after Chris Tarrant emerged with some talent as a backman and McPharlin was shifted forward but managed just 20 goals from his 18 games.
The 28-year-old said he was keen to get back to the backline and possible recapture his former glory of 2007 and 2008 where the key position player finished third in the Dockers’ club champion award both years.
His poor performance in 2009 could be a reason the senior player was noticeably omitted from Fremantle’s leadership group for this season, but a very humble McPharlin said with 23 youngsters arriving at the club in the last two years alone, it was time to step aside.
Training returned to Fremantle last week and as the Dockers website reported, assistant coach Dean Wallis nominated McPharlin as a standout performer with McPharlin himself conceding he surprised himself with his summer pre-season form.
