Dockers coach Mark Harvey has said 29-year-old Des Headland will travel to Victoria and is a chance to suit up for the do-or-die clash against the premiers Geelong.
The veteran, who has not played for Fremantle for more than four months, has been battling injuries for much of the season, but the coach said he will be strongly considered.
Headland has finals experience, being former Brisbane premiership player.
Harvey said the veteran player is damaging around the mark and is “a dangerous forward”.
“In finals games it can be hard to score so if you can add to that you look at it,” he said.
Headland was selected by Brisbane Lions with the first selection in the 1998 AFL Draft although he only played 3 games for Brisbane in 1999.
However, he only had 3 kicks in the following game and was dropped for the next five games until being recalled in round 20.
He starred in this game against his future team, kicking 3 goals in a huge win over Fremantle.
In 2000 Headland only play 2 games in the first half of the season, but he ended up playing 9 games including both of Brisbane’s final round games.
Despite his propensity to miss games and being injury prone, Headland would be a welcomed inclusion in the game against the Cats.
As would Aaron Sandilands, as Harvey reckons his knee injury will not affect his ability to compete in ruck contests.
The All-Australian ruckman suffered the injury in last weekend’s win over Hawthorn.
Harvey said the response by the giant so far has been really positive.
“That’s all we can judge it on at the moment.â€
“Naturally, we’d probably like to see in the next 48 hours what he can do so at some stage we’ll have a look at him over in Melbourne.”
