It’s not surprising, but Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe was named as this week’s nomination for the NAB AFL Rising Star.

So far is in the same company as Nic Naitanui.

At just 18 years of age, Fyfe has managed to muscle into the senior despite his diminutive frame and unchiselled arms.

His exciting and skilful play during the Dockers’ win against Sydney Swans at the weekend, where he had 23 disposals for the match, really showed he is a player for the future.

Fyfe also had 4 clearances, 5 tackles, 7 inside 50s and 12 of his possessions were contested.

Like many of the young players to rise to the occasion for Fremantle this year, Fyfe is showing all the hallmarks of Dockers greatness.

After a tumultuous week for Fremantle following a drug scandal with Michael Johnson, Fyfe was inspirational in not letting the saga bring the boys down and helped eradicate the SCG voodoo.

The Swans started the game well but went down in the second quarter where they managed just 2 goals to the Dockers’ 6.

Fyfe was pick 20 when drafted by the Fremantle Football Club in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft after he impressed recruiters during his time at Claremont Colts and the State Under 18s side.

The 18-year-old home-grown Sandgroper says has been overwhelmed with how approachable his new teammates are and that he looks up to leaders Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands.

“But for me Paul Duffield and Ryan Murphy have been great mentors and easy to approach guys who I can go and talk to about any issues on field or off field and they’ve been a big help,” he was reported as saying this week.

Fyfe made his debut in round 5 at Subiaco where he became the 150th player to represent Fremantle in the AFL.
