Fremantle Football Club senior coach Mark Harvey reckons Essendon got a little too excited over their win against ladder leaders St Kilda last week.

Harvey, who this week warned his uncontracted players that selfish football will not be tolerated in the final rounds of the season, said the rest of the season and some players’ future relied on their performance.

Fremantle has suffered several humiliating defeats this season, though the club’s credibility took a thrashing following last week’s 63-point loss to ladder losers Melbourne.

Harvey said it was frustrating to witness a sudden and dramatic drop in form from the club.

He said a lack of form after the club sometimes shows glimpses of greatness happened all too often.

The Dockers are poised to rebuild through the NAB AFL draft this November, adding increasing pressure on fringe players hoping to sign new contracts and a number of rookies vying for senior list spots.

But for how long can one club claim “rebuilding” status?

For too long the Fremantle Football Club has looked like a solid machine on paper, but seemingly failed to deliver on its promises for premiership success on the field.

Granted the club lost a bevy of senior players last year, the purple passion may be wearing thin for many Dockers supporters.

Harvey this week said that the fact some Fremantle players were fighting for their careers could be a danger for Essendon this weekend, but the coach warned players not to be selfish.

“You play your role,” he said.

Fremantle will see the return of Hayden Ballantyne and Roger Hayden this Sunday.

Luke McPharlin is poised to play his 150th match with Harvey saying the versatile star still had room for improvement.
