Essendon’s Paddy Ryder can count himself lucky after beating a two-match ban at the AFL tribunal yesterday.
Ryder is the only available senior ruckman left for the Bombers with experienced ruckmen David Hille (ACL) and Jason Laycock (stress fracture) out for the remainder of the season.
Ryder was facing a two-week ban after being reported for rough conduct against Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield on Sunday.
The 19-year-old is now free to play against Melbourne next week after his legal team successfully argued that the force applied when shepherding was not unreasonable in the circumstances.
