Essendon midfielder Mark McVeigh’s injury troubles look to have continued into the 2009 season, after he hurt an ankle in his team’s tight two-point win over the Brisbane Lions on Friday night in an NAB Cup quarter-final.
McViegh was tackled by Cheynee Stiller in the second term, resulting in him injuring his ankle and leaving the ground for the rest of the game.
The midfielder was terribly unlucky in the 2008 season, tearing a hamstring and then badly injuring his knee. He has also had surgery on his toe over the summer.
Essendon coach Matthew knights was confident the injury was not serious, explaining that McVeigh was close to coming back onto the ground in the second half of the game.
The Bombers now battle Collingwood in a semi-final next Friday night.
