Essendon’s senior player, Mark McVeigh will miss his team’s crucial clash with Carlton this Friday night at the MCG, after pleading guilty and receiving a one-match ban for striking.
McVeigh was reported for his third quarter strike against Demon Jared Rivers, during Essendon’s 48 point on Friday night. The match review panel later assessed the incident and deemed it to be a level three offence that was intentional, low impact and high contact. This gave him a total of 225 points but with an early plea it would be reduced by 25 per cent.
McVeigh accepted the one week suspension and will be back for Essendon’s blockbuster match against Collingwood the following Friday night.
