Essendon midfielder Mark McVeigh is poised to return to the Bombers sooner rather than later, according to coach Matthew Knights.
The 28-year-old injured his ankle during the pre-season, and has only played one match this year against North Melbourne.
Knights however said McVeigh insisted on playing in the VFL for Bendigo this weekend, instead of Essendon.
Quizzed on the issue by Footy Show panellist Sam Newman, McVeigh said it wouldn’t be right rushing him back into the squad, especially when there were other deserving players available who were 100 per cent match-fit.
