Bombers senior player Adam McPhee looks set to leave the club, but as of Tuesday morning, is yet to officially resign from the Essendon squad.

McPhee, who had played 142 of his 167 career games with the Bombers has indicated that he will seek a return to Fremantle via the pre-season draft. The Dockers are willing to do what Essendon isn’t, which is offer him a three-year contract, with the Bombers only wishing to offer him a two-year deal.

Coach Matthew Knights explained that he wanted to retain the 27-year-old, because he was a senior player who has played at a high level for a long period and a club shouldn’t let a player like that slip away.

Knights added that the 27-year-old must be willing to accept where Essendon are heading as a club and he understood that he could find a better deal elsewhere.
