South Fremantle have been forced to give up Victorian Amateur League recruit David Dawes this week after the club was found to have exceeded its interstate players quota.
The Bulldogs, who already had a strong interstate flavour to their list, picked up Dawes, Simon O’Keefe and Nick Paine from the east in the off-season, but Football Manager Jason Burton told Footygoss on Tuesday that the club was disappointed, but content on the decision to cut the utility from Old Brighton’s.
“Basically we had to get rid of one more off our list and unfortunately it was him,†Burton said.
“We really wanted to keep him here, but the rules said we had to get rid of one.â€Â
Both Burton and East Perth Football Manager Jason Thomas confirmed that Dawes was now a target for the Royals.
The Bulldogs will have a bye in week three of the preseason series this weekend and will conduct an intra-club match to replace regular training on Thursday night in preparation for their Round 1 home and away clash with reigning premiers Subiaco on March 20 at Fremantle Oval.
