Paul Nicholls, who lost a long battle with cancer on Saturday, was one of the last of an esteemed list to represent his State at cricket in parallel with a successful and long running football career.

Nicholls played in several positions with the East Freo blue and whites, and was at full forward in the 1974 premiership win over Perth, contributing four goals.

He was a regular in the WA cricket side as an all rounder between 1971 and 78, scoring 486 runs and taking 21 wickets with a best of 5 for 68.
