Thirty-three-year-old veteran Paul Lindsay will play his 50th WAFL game with East Fremantle this weekend against a fired up West Perth at East Fremantle Oval.

Debuting for the Sharks in 1995 where he notched up four league games in his first year, Lindsay played some 46 matches before the Geelong Football Club took an interest in the then 19-year-old, where he played two AFL games.

However, it was in the SANFL where Lindsay honed is skills, playing in 157 senior games as a ruckman cum key forward for the Woodville West Torrens.

Work commitments and a love for the club where it all started sees Lindsay back on Sharks turf for the milestone 50th game.

Sharks football manager Damien Gaspar said with the likes veteran Lindsay on the field, young up-and-comers such as Connor Davidson, Kane Lucas and Lewis Fasolo could learn a great deal.

He told FootyGoss that although the club has had a fantastic start to season 2009, there was not time to become complacent.

“I’m confident it’s going to be a real close competition, so I’m a little reluctant to form a top-four at this stage, so I’m just going to say that it’s really going to come down to some of the close games early in the season,” he said.

Despite being the most successful club in the history of the WAFL, East Fremantle has not played finals footy since 2002 or won a premiership since 1998.

And while the signs are promising for the club this season, Gaspar knows the hard work needed to convert this strong start into a great season remains the focus.
