East Fremantle - the one point winners

The East Fremantle Sharks have had a thrilling one point victory in both the League and Reserves games at today’s blockbuster, Foundation Day derby against the South Fremantle Bulldogs.

Playing on their home ground at East Fremantle Oval, the Sharks had a come from behind win in front of a huge crowd nearing 10 000. It wasn’t until the 18 minute mark of the final quarter that the Sharks hit the front and held on to win 18.7 (115) to 17.12 (114).

For the Sharks, Courtney Johns kicked four goals and Daniel Dalby had 34 possessions to be in their best, and for the Bulldogs Murphy and Phillips both kicked four goals each.

With South Fremantle throwing everything at them in the last five minutes, the Sharks held on to upset the ladder leaders and stop a five game losing streak. Both teams had injuries in the blockbuster, with the Sharks Captain Kasey Green going down early in the first quarter with a knee injury and Bulldogs star Peter Bell also going off the field with a hamstring injury.

Earlier in the day the East Fremantle reserves also won a thriller after trailing at half time. They too won by a solitary point 9.11 (65) to 9.10 (64).
