Collingwood rookie Ryan Cook is expected to be charged with assault after allegedly attacking a man near a Sale service station in Victoria earlier this year.
The alleged victim reportedly suffered extensive facial injuries, including a broken nose, cheek and two fractured eye sockets.
Initially the club denied Cook of any wrong-doing, and insisted the 21-year-old acted in self-defence; a claim the alleged victim denied.
However Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert later stated Cook would in fact be charged following the incident.
