Collingwood are set to welcome back the services of All-Australian small forward Paul Medhurst this week.
The nimble forward has missed the pre-season so far due to back injury and a foot stress fracture, but is ready to take the field again.
Magpies assistant coach Blake Caracella said Medhurst was close to playing last week for the reserves but just failed to pass a fitness test.
He added that he is a strong chance to play either for Collingwood or the reserves this week.
Collingwood are also closlely monitoring the progress of star forward Anthony Rocca, who is still several weeks off from being able to play. Caracella saying that the club will be resting him frequently this year to keep him fresh.
