Collingwood and Heath Shaw will be hoping recent history is nothing to go by when the defender faces a charge of making contact with an umpire next week.

Shaw received a 50 metre penalty against him for apparently grabbing umpire Michael Vozzo’s arm and was then reported for the incident.

With the AFL declaring to crack down on player contact with umpires this season, the outlook for Shaw could be costly. Recent incidents between players and umpires have resulted in at least a two-week suspension.  Reckless, accidental or intentional, if the contact is there, players should be concerned.

It is likely Shaw will face a tribunal hearing on Tuesday.
