Tigers turn it on

Claremont has erased the nightmare of last week’s capituation to Peel Thunder and in doing so dented East Fremantle’s finals aspirations with an impressive 63-point victory at Claremont Oval today.

With half forward Troy Carlon announcing his retirement pre-match the Tigers charged out of the blocks with a seven-goal first term and were never seriously challenged, running out winners, 19.12 (126) to 9.9 (63).

It was key forward David Crawford who sparked the home side into action with an astonishing five-goal burst in the first term.

With the breeze at their backs Claremont continually sent the ball forward and Crawford was on the end of everything, even setting up Ian Richardson for a goal after kicking his five majors.

The Sharks failed to take advantage of their first opportunity with the breeze, but did make a move early in the second half as they trimmed the margin to just two goals.

However, Claremont rattled on the next ten goals to put the visitors away and secure their fifth win of the season.

Livewire forward Richardson led the way kicking goals in every quarter to finish with a bag of seven while midfielders Andrew Browne (33 disposals), Michael Cousens (32) and Jaxon Crabb (30) were creative through the centre of the ground.

Young defenders Ian Rowe, James Thomson and Preston O’Keefe launched many attacks and Michael Warren was clearly the best ruckman on the ground.

East Fremantle were well served by Liam Anthony who collected 35 possessions while Andrew McCarrey filled roles at both ends of the ground over the course of the afternoon and Matt Spangher kept Chad Jones quiet before moving on to the dangerous Crawford and holding him goalless for the last three quarters.
