The Tigers Ins And Outs
Posted Feb 12, 2009 - 15:31 PM
Roger Kerr took over a club with a team that had finished the home and away season on top of the ladder, and ended up being Grand Finalists. Then half his playing stocks retired, got injured, or moved on, and he was left to pick up the pieces.
The year soon started to pass and it became apparent that Kerr’s side was being moulded into an army of competitive combatants. That competitive edge will need to carry on into 2009 if they are to climb back up the ladder.
The turnover at the Tigers Lair is substantial, headlined by the gain of Luke Blackwell. Ryan Jackson and Adam Coff also join the club from across the Nullabour, and should help any settling in issues.
Unfortunately a testament to the development skills of the Tiger is that again, they have lost players to the next level. Jesse Laurie (Port Adelaide), Warren Benjamin (Nth Melb), Alroy Gilligan (Richmond), Tom Lee (Adelaide) are all off to cut their teeth in the AFL.
The full list of movements to date is as listed below, with last minute alterations likely to follow the intra-club matches and the pre season competition.
Gains: Luke Blackwell (Carlton), Ryan Jackson (Carlton), Adam Coff (Northern Bullants), Trent DeNardi (Returning after year off), Matt Kennewell (Geraldton, Perth, East Freo), Aaron Jarvis (Country /previous player), Tom Matson (Travel), Darren Harper (Trinity Amateurs), Jordan Smith (South Fremantle), Rory Walton (Travel, Returning in April)
AFL: Casey Sibasado (Freo Rookie, Broome), Liam Bedford (Eagles Rookie, Geelong), Nick Suban (Freo Reverse Draft), Ben Bucovaz (Freo Reverse Draft)
Outs: Michael Cousens (Travel), David Crawford (Travel), Anthony Jones (Retired), Troy Carlon (Retired), Preston O’Keefe (Amateurs), Jack Reagan (Work/Travel), Jesse Laurie (Port Adelaide), Warren Benjamin (Nth Melb), Alroy Gilligan (Richmond), Tom Lee (Adelaide)
The Tigers have an intra club games this Friday 13th @ 5.45pm and then the following Friday 20th @ 7.00pm, make sure you get down to see the side in action as they prepare for the 2009 season. The second intra-club match follows the West Coast scratch match to be held at Claremont Oval, so Eagle fans can watch their final preparations and stick around for a bite to eat and a drink.
