Billionaire Richard Pratt has died in his Melbourne home on Tuesday night following a long battle with prostate cancer.

Pratt, 74 was appointed as Carlton president in 2007 when the club had hit rock bottom.

The packaging tycoon, who is estimated to be worth $2.3 billion turned the off-field fortunes of the club around and was a key figure in luring Brownlow Medallist and West Coast captain Chris Judd to the Blues.

Coach Brett Ratten and several players visited Pratt at his home in the week leading up to his death.

On Sunday, Pratt watched on as his Blues stunned the Western Bulldogs with a 43-point upset win at Docklands.

Carlton will now look to honour Pratt’s memory when they play Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday.
