Carlton skipper Chris Judd is facing a two-game suspension for making contact to the face of Brisbane’s Michael Rischietelli.
Judd said he didn’t intend to eye-gouge Rischitello, but was trying to apply a martial arts technique. The match review panel rule that he had made unnecessary and unreasonable contact to Rishitelli’s face during the Blues’ heart-breaking loss to the Lions at the Gabba.
Should Judd take the case to the tribunal, he’ll risk a three-game ban. He’ll serve his suspension at the start of next season.
The Brownlow medallist will still be eligible for the 2009 and 2010 Brownlow, with the AFL confirming that any penalties inflicted from September or pre-season action don’t affect Brownlow eligibility.
Judd is third favourite with Sportsbet to win a second Brownlow Medal in 2009 after another excellent season.
