Western Bulldogs legend Scott West will not play AFL football in 2009 after the club decided not to renew his contract.

It is believed that the club is focusing on the youngsters within the team and believe West is well past his best playing days.

West, who has won seven best and fairest awards at the club, only managed to play four games this season, due to serious issues with his knees.

The two-time Brownlow Medal runner up, and five times All Australian star, will retire after playing 324 games with the Dogs.
