The Mouth puts his foot in it

It seems the only thing Jason Akermanis is good for is mouthing off.
Sure, he could kick a footy. Yes, he is a Browlow medallist. I know he’s a Premiership player. And of course the stats speak for themselves.
But all that amounts to little if no club can tolerate your antics and ultimately you are sacked.
It’s true, Aker was given the axe for being himself and being brutally honest.
Sometimes, a sport needs someone like that to shake things up.
Like Dennis Rodman when he played for the Pistons and later the Bulls in the NBA.
But is it worth being so mouthy if its costs you your livelihood?
Akermanis could have and in my personal opinion should have ended what was an illustrious career in a much different way.
But even now his former club would view him in a much lesser light.
Akermanis has taken aim at his first club by questioning why ex-team-mate and current Brisbane coach Michael Voss was exempt from a sweeping review based on the team’s poor performance.
“Chairman Tony Kelly has ordered a complete review at season’s end of all footy operations with - surprise, surprise - the only one exempt being Voss,” Akermanis wrote in his Herald Sun column on Wednesday.
“I have accused Tony of having a man-crush on Vossy and this hasn’t changed my mind.
“Sometimes the coach is unfairly a target, but he will always be accountable for certain things, such as the direct team around him."â€
Kelly made the call in what can only be described as a horror Lions season who have 12 losses in 13 games.
They are poised to equal a club record of eight consecutive losses if they fall to Melbourne at the Gabba on Saturday night.
Rockliff, when probed about Aker’s comments was somewhat diplomatic.
“Aker has his comments on everything - that’s his choice to comment on things,†he said.
Rockliff went on to say it was not really Voss’s fault of the poor position and that the coach has always been positive this year.
“We probably owe him. Hopefully we can show him in the next five weeks,†he said.
Now that Aker is jobless, albeit waiting for that lucrative job in the media, the mouth ought to shut close for a while or risk losing any respect he once had in the AFL.
No doubt he lost the respect at the Lions den when he was there.
I’m certain this time around the ‘Dogs lost confidence in him and so gave him the boot.
You have to ask yourself, is really worth it?
