Western Bulldogs star Adam Cooney has one the Brownlow Medal, one vote ahead of Brisbane’s Simon Black.

Cooney finished with 24 votes, whilst Black had 23 and Brownlow Medal favorite for most of the season, Gary Ablett, was tied on third with Richmond hero Matthew Richardson, with 22 votes.

Cooney, who turns 23 in a weeks time, is the first Bulldog since Scott Wynd in 1992 to win the Brownlow.

Cooney ended the regular home and away season at $14 with bookies, but as it’s know bookies aren’t always right, as he cruised past $2.40 favorite Gary Ablett, sealing the win with a three vote performance against the Bombers in Round 21.

Cooney will have knee surgery in the off-season, after it was revealed he played the final series with a fractured knee.
