AFL Football Operations Manager Adrian Anderson today announced the AFL would impose no further financial sanctions on the Brisbane Lions for seven outstanding breaches of the AFL rules on lodgement of documents under the AFL's Total Player Payments (TPP) system.
Mr Anderson said he had taken into account the fact the club had already been sanctioned $260,000 for 26 breaches with a fixed sanction of $10,000 each.
"Unlike those breaches, the sanctions for the further seven breaches relate mainly to supporting documents and the sanction is discretionary. In exercising my discretion, I have also taken into account the following:
The commitment of the Brisbane Lions to shortly appoint a specific person to the position of Compliance Officer, to ensure the club observes all of the AFL Player Rules and, in particular, any time limits which apply to the lodgement of documents and information requested by the AFL;
The Lions' commitment to seek a review of its current systems and records management by AFL Investigations Manager Ken Wood to determine that modern and appropriate procedures are in place for monitoring due compliance with the AFL Player Rules;
A detailed club submission received by the AFL on April 29, 2004 on these seven breaches, which related to sections 5.8.1 and 10.3.4 of the Player Rules.
