Ben Cousins’ hope of a dream comeback to AFL looks to be over after the Brisbane Lions said they didn’t want to recruit him in Saturday’s national draft.
Brisbane were the last and only chance for Cousins to rebuild his shattered career, after the Saints informed the former drug addict on Tuesday night that he was not wanted.
Cousins will be ruing the fact that he twice rejected an invitation by the Lions to meet up with them in Brisbane because he was positive that the Saints would sign him up for the 2009 season.
The Lions’ officials held a one hour meeting on Friday afternoon where they revealed their unexpected final decision.
It appears as if Cousins has played his last game.
