Brisbane Lions’ triple premiership coach Leigh Matthews has decided to resign after ten years with the club.

Matthew told a press conference at the Gabba this morning that over the last twelve months he kept on wondering when and how would be the best way to finish his career.

Matthews started coaching at the Lions in 1999.

The Lions’ coach said he made the decision on Saturday afternoon prior to the game against Sydney.

Brisbane turned around from being 1998 wooden spooners to premiership champions from 2001-2003, something Matthews never even dreamed would happen.
