Brisbane Lions Chairman Graeme Downie has released the following statement in relation to the sanctions handed down by the AFL on April 21:

The Brisbane Lions today informed the AFL that the club would not launch an appeal against the imposition of financial sanctions totalling $260,000 for various breaches of AFL Player Rules.

The club advised the AFL that it accepted that it had breached the relevant provisions of the AFL Player Rules and that the club totally respects the integrity of the rules and the necessity for strict financial sanctions for non-compliance.

In notifying the AFL of its decision not to appeal, the Brisbane Lions also informed the league that the club had proactively made a commitment to ensuring that it duly complies with all of the AFL Player Rules in future by:
