The passing of a legend

Fitzroy and Carlton legend Clen Denning passed away on Monday night at the ripe age of 98 years and 11 months.
The last surviving member of Fitroy’s 1944 premiership side, Denning was the oldest living VFL/AFL player.
Denning made an incredible start to his VFL career, one that kids dream of when he booted six goals with his first six kicks for Carlton in 1935.
After playing 23 matches for Carlton, he moved to Fitzroy in 1937 and stayed there for ten seasons. He carried on his good form there, where he led Fitzroy’s goalkicking in 1939 before becoming a treasured defender in the 1944 premiership team.
He booted 59 goals and represented Victoria in 1941 before hanging up the boots in 1947 after a healthy 159 VFL games.
