Matthews rejects Richmond offer

Leigh Matthews has rejected the offer to join a select panel in charge of deciding Richmond’s new senior coach.

The four-time premiership coach is the second to knock back the offer after Kevin Sheedy also rejected the club’s bid for help to try and find a replacement for Terry Wallace.

Matthews, 57, cited logistical reasons along with current AFL commitments as the main drawback for not assisting the Tigers.

Richmond remains undecided on whether they will rely on their own internal sub-committee to narrow the field of coaching candidates.
