Football fakers to receive shake up

A PLAN by the AFL could mark the end of players staging free kicks by the start of the 2010 season.
Players caught staging free kicks could face fines for misconduct under a new proposal put before clubs as part of an AFL review of the tribunal.
Football operations manager Adrian Anderson contacted all 16 clubs to get feedback on the tribunal, and will ask the clubs if players should be fined for deliberate staging.
However, the league denied the move was prompted by the controversial goal-square free kick paid to St Kilda forward Nick Riewoldt, against Western Bulldog Brian Lake in the preliminary final.
The staging misconduct proposal is just one of eight areas of review, with making contact with an opponents face set to warrant a higher sanction.
The call comes after Brownlow medallist Chris Judd received just a three match suspension for gouging the face of Brisbane Lion Michael Rischitelli.
Contact with an umpire will also be reviewed, after 28 players were charged with making contact with an umpire this season, while a fixed three-member jury system has been put forward to replace a rotating jury.
Setanta O’hAilpin’s extraordinary attack on teammate Cameron Cloke has prompted a push for tribunal at intra-club matches.
Others include penalty loadings for players with poor tribunal records and acknowledging the danger of sling tackles by introducing harsher penalties.
While the league has also asked clubs whether the cut-off tally of demerit points to make a player ineligible for the Brownlow Medal should be lifted from 100 to 125.
