It is no secret that Adelaide has had a horrid start to the 2010 AFL season.
The club’s run of bad luck continued this week with youngster Patrick Dangerfield fracturing his hand and is expected to miss up to a four weeks of football.
The club said on its website: “Patrick Dangerfield will miss up to a month of football because of a fractured bone in his left hand.â€
“The injury was revealed by an MRI scan late [Tuesday], after earlier X-rays were inconclusive.â€
Dangerfield, 20, has played five games this season for a career total of 28.
It’s another blow to the Crows, which are yet to get a win on the board, as Dangerfield has been glimmer of hope in an otherwise dull season for the Crows, who are languishing in 15th spot on the ladder.
The Crows hope defender Nathan Bock will play against Port Adelaide this weekend after missing the past two matches with a hamstring strain.
However, wingman David Mackay has been ruled out of the derby clash due to a groin strain which also sidelined him last weekend.
To add insult to injury, forward Chris Knights is set to join Dangerfield and rookie Ricky Henderson on the sidelines because of a stress fracture in his foot, which caused him to miss most of the club’s pre-season campaign and also the opening two home and away games.
FootyGoss understands Henderson will spend a fair while on the sidelines after straining his hamstring in the same game, but skipper Simon Goodwin said it was unclear how many games Knights would miss.
Adelaide’s poor start to the season has already equalled its worst start to an AFL season (0-5) since 2000.
Another loss could end the club’s finals hopes all together.
Goodwin said the players still believed they could be successful this season, conceding that “0-5 is a position you don’t want to be inâ€.
