I agree that rules are there for a reason. But in Shuey’s case he’s barely played any footy in 2 years. Out of a possible 40 games he’s managed about 5. So, in spite of the obvious objections, I don’t blame the Club for asking he be made eligible. Its not just 6 weeks off with glandular fever. Its another 7 weeks off with other sundry injuries. You can be sure that had EP decided to do so, they could well have named Shuey in the starting 22 and just sat him on the bench for most, or all of the game. They didn’t, mainly because The Eagles would have objected to the prospect of Shuey playing even 5 minutes. The Club’s reward is to have Shuey ineligible to play WAFL finals.
I can see their case. They abided by The Eagles wishes, even when a fit athlete like Shuey misses 6 whole weeks with glandular fever. Who takes that long to get over glandular fever?
But that’s life. Shuey isn’t available so we move on.
