The rule as it is with AFL players and finals has been in place for some time now. I can’t see why East Perth, would even think they had a chance of the WAFL (let alone the Eagles) allowing Shuey to play.
Glad to see this has finally been put to bed now.

Good to see Wirra training again too and looking much fitter for all his dancing.  On the Noakes arm it was injured in an off the ball incident identical too what happened to him last time against Claremont.

Wirra evidently is a hot favourite to coach Perth next season provided he can balance this with his Celebrity Masterchef commitments.

Funny how EP make finals and all these blokes are back training. I hear Jason Roe trained solidly last week and he too was on fire this week.

Sorry Roy Boys,I’m inclined to agree with Robbo. That line about someone being Ill,just doesn’t wash with me as a Reason to qualify for Finals.Terrible he got it,but if he doesn’t qualify under the Criteria, that’s just bad luck.

I agree that rules are there for a reason. But in Shuey’s case he’s barely played any footy in 2 years. Out of a possible 40 games he’s managed about 5. So, in spite of the obvious objections, I don’t blame the Club for asking he be made eligible.  Its not just 6 weeks off with glandular fever. Its another 7 weeks off with other sundry injuries. You can be sure that had EP decided to do so, they could well have named Shuey in the starting 22 and just sat him on the bench for most, or all of the game. They didn’t, mainly because The Eagles would have objected to the prospect of Shuey playing even 5 minutes. The Club’s reward is to have Shuey ineligible to play WAFL finals.

I can see their case. They abided by The Eagles wishes, even when a fit athlete like Shuey misses 6 whole weeks with glandular fever. Who takes that long to get over glandular fever?

But that’s life. Shuey isn’t available so we move on.

It was worth a try, and I can’t help but think it was more publicity and having a bit of a laugh - If we got Shuey our gain, but if we didn’t (which was 99% likely) oh well, no harm.

More like 100% likely, it was never going to happen, and would have been a travesty if it did
