What did you guys do:

Play Auskick rules with no tackling?
Whoever gets it out of the middle keeps it?

Or was it a dead rubber, let’s not get hurt and just enjoy ourselves and be ripe for Mad Monday?

I just can’t remember a WAFL game with that sort of scoreline.

I agree - lets hope Picket Snr stays on. There’s not enough blokes with huge game experience in the WAFL these days and we need every one we can get.

What a remarkable match. It just shows what can happen when the pressure is off and nothing too lose. Reminds me of another unique clash back in 1979 at Basso, when Swans kicked 40.11 to the Lions 20.7. I don’t think anyone in the small crowd yesterday would have expected what they saw in a dead-rubber, final round game between last year’s GF sides. It was one of the most entertaining matches for many years and a fitting send off for Webby.

Unfortunatley for us South supporters DD that is exactly how we have played all year, statistically we are the 3rd highest scoring team against in the WAFL this year , only above Peel and wait for it?? Pth… red face
We have struggled from day one this year to develop enough defensive running / tackling pressure to opposition sides all year… Thank Christ the year has come to end…

Yeh, good work Souths & Subi, the 1980s revisited. I remember we played Cl @ Subi Oval in 1981 and they kicked 30 goals to our 20, it was not uncommon at all back then !

Been os on some r & r, so missed the last 3 games, that loss to the ferrals was the nail. How can a team kick so badly one week when it counts then have 17.1 on the board at halftime the next week!!

Oh well, the worm has turned and 3 new teams in the finals so a good thing for the comp. The club will have to look at the big injury list we had this year that showed up the lack of depth. Guys like Bristow, Read, Forrest and Cockie all missed most of the year with injury so thats 4 good midfielders to come back. Fingers crossed they give Campbell and those 3/4 Qld blokes the flick which will free up some points, so we can find a couple of desperately needed quality midfielders and forwards.

Webby has retired, what a quality player and quality bloke he has been, a sensational player for us since coming over from the vfl via Perth, wish him well in retirement, reckon he has all the makings of a very good coach if he is inclined that way in the future. Would like to see him take over the colts as Schoey is not the right fit imo. Possible retirements of Cossom & Keevo, big losses there, Ali snr still to decide. Liked the move of Rumba up forward and Jordy to FB.

With a fit list and some careful recruiting we could be in the finals mix next year. There were some comments re Waterman failing as a coach due to us missing the finals, thats rubbish imo as any check of the player losses and injuries over the last couple of years would show that the current list is a shadow of the great premiership teams and missed the finals by 1 game and %, not great but not a failure either.

Have a good mate who’s a Tigers member so might tag along to the Claremont tip next sunday for what should be a ripper game.

There’s always a silver lining in that Joondy join us on the sidelines for september. grin
