Freo certainly looked like a top 4 side today.  Their skills were about 500% better than the WCE.  Yes I know that the opposition (or lack of) made them look good, but you can’t take anything away from them - they were brilliant.  What’s the bet that one of Woosha’s comments will be “we learnt a lot from that” or “we’re still focused on the future”....or some other crap?

Shark I thought they were physically stronger around the packs and tackled a lot harder than West Coast. They were back to hunting the man when he had the ball. They seemed to cause turnovers with late last gasp touch’s from behind.
Ballantyne was very good at pressuring the ball carrier.  How he didn’t win the medal had me and everyone around were we where sitting nonplussed.

If I was in charge of West Coast’s list I would get rid of over half of the players currently on the list. There is very very little quality in that club.

Swift, Ebert, Masten, McKenzie, McGinnity etc are all shithouse

Always controversy over the medal… Ballentyne and Pavlich would of been my first pics.
I couldnt believe that goal umpire who was right on the line and gave it as touched in the last qtr after one of the best plays of the game by Pav.
Maybe he was blinded by the sunnies he wearing. Suspect he wont be doing any AFL GOAL jobs for awhile..Maybe he is a x soccor referree after what happened to England in the world cup? cool smile

They need to bring in a camera on the line sooner than later. There has been too many mistakes by goal umpires with these sorts of decisions of late. It will decide a game one day and the goal umpire wont get out of the stadium alive.

I think the reason “The Germ” didn’t get the medal was that alot of his good work was in the second half as opposed to sandilands was more of a 4 Quarter effort, having said that 22 poss. for 7 critical errors I probably would have leaned more towards Broughton or Pav for the medal.

Agree Robbo, the difference in the personnel that have been drafted by each club in the last 3 years is really showing, Freo have an outstanding group of players who have played less than 50 games while WC have .... well, a bunch of absolute plodders. They will be where they are for many years to come while the same coach and recruiting staff remain. There are many that think Worsfold is a master coach due to his 2 GF’s and a flag. My view is that much of the hard work was done by Judge before JW took over and it would have been a travesty if WC couldn’t win a flag with the amazingly talented midfield they had at the time. The drovers dog could have got them over the line. The game has moved on but sadly JW & the WCE have not. The WCE’s next recruit should be a bloody big broom.

Ok robbo so you get rid of half our list (which is what, 20 or 22 players?) and how many draft picks do we get to replace them? Hint, it aint 20 or 22.

And how long would we be a financially successful team paying out all their contracts early?

Seriously, have a think about things before you say them.

On Pavs goal, was there a different angle to the one I saw? Which was on about a 70 degree angle (almost straight up the ground) and hardly conclusive. I’m sick of the commentators, usually the clown Brian Taylor, every week making a call about how something was certainly a goal when they have the worst possible angle to make that judgement from.

As I said, There may have been other replays which I didnt see, but the one I saw had the defender with one leg outstretched, foot on the line, and arm outstretched touching the ball , seemed almost directly above the foot therefore also on the line.

Wellsy Its easy to cull your list in half just ask Freo recruit staff from 2 seasons ago or Richmond from last season. Anyone who’s contract is up at WCE should not be getting re signed.

I think clubs are allowed upto 15 picks at the draft (could be wrong) but Freo had 13 picks in 2009 draft and Richmond had 14 picks this year. Upgrade a few rookies and the list is more than half turned over. As Freo have shown it can be done in two drafts if the club has the initiative and balls to go for it.

The following players are list cloggers and IMO should be turned over, if not this year then next, its a good spot to start
Brown - The eagles dont even know where to play him?????
Butler - 77 games in 10 years - great value for money there
Dalziel - Poor foot skills - just what the eagles needed
Ebert - Lacks pace and poor skills - Clearly issues with this kid when the crows overlooked him
Embley - Good servant but passed his best
Glass - As above time to retire
Hansen - Time to retire
Houlihan - 15 games in 3 years 0 this year
Brett Jones - Well past his best - Not that his best was ever very good
Masten - Cant Kick
Mckinley - Cant defend poor kick for goal
Nicoski - Injury prone
Notte - 2 games in 3 years good draft pick hey
Spanger - 22 games in 3 years???? Not big enough for KPP
Swift - Has not improved on his skills might be a good athlete but cant play football
Wilkes - 23 games in 3 years nto a good enough return

Firstly I wish JW would give us something more than the “PC” statements he makes after every game.
John tell it like it is mate our list is at best not good! I know we live in an age when we have to treat everybody/thing with kid gloves but give us something to take into next season. Tell us something like “yes the list is not good and people we pinned our future on (and there are quite a few of them) have not lived up to expectations and we are really going to take a big stick to the list make some hard decisions and do what we have to do to get our club back to where it should be.

My opinion on the list of trades or good byes (I am no expert just my opinion).................

Daniel Kerr should be offered up as a trade why? Gold Coast would love him so lets get a few of the aces they are holding plus in our current team he wouldn’t make a lot of difference. The focus would shift from Priddis to Kerr and his body and temperament wouldn’t last.

As to the rest of the squad I think that desperate times call for desperate measures and every player should be considered trade bait if it means building for the future.
Not sure what sort of culture that builds though but as I say desperate times… and who knows maybe its the rocket “a few” of them need nothing else seems to be working.

And ....if they are keeping JW lets look at some new assitants with a few new ideas mind you if JW goes at the end of his contract the new ones probably would be cleanded out too when the new coach starts so could be a death sentence.

Me thinks someone didn’t watch the game very closely.
I am not sure what his possessions were in the first half but possessions don’t mean everything. His pressure that he applied early in the game was enormous. The Germ as you call him certainly killed off the weak kneed efforts from your parasites who think they can play football.
For what it is worth my medal man was De boer until Ballantyne kicked his 6th goal.

Ballentyne played a good 4 qtrs and had him high on the list. Hilly was brilliant
Fyfy was good but not really for the medal in my book.
Pave got it from me when he did that incredible run and kicked the Goal that wasnt a goal but was really a goal...The camera proved it beyond doubt and the goal umpire was right on the line so he BLEW IT BIG TIME.
Glad it wasnt one of those close finishes or as someone said he wouldnt of got off the ground.

The TV commentars were pathetic… No idea and didnt call the game half the time.
When Leccy kicked his 2nd goal and they said A BRILLIANT 2ND GOAL BY LECRAS I was a bit confused as his first goal was a free kick right in front…
Painful to listen to as these 7 commentators are right up themselves.
Dont mind Basil in the breaks but the other guy seem to have a problem or had something else on his mind?

Fair enoungh anchorman, I never said he didn’t play well. I thought the whole fremantle side put enormous pressure on in the first quarter not just the germ, I had him probably 3rd or 4th personaly just my opinion.

Cardy maybe you can answer my question on Pavs goal? Was there another angle shown on TV or at the ground? The one I saw was virtually from straight up the ground and very inconclusive. If people are relying on that same vision as ‘BT’ did to call it a ‘Certain’ goal then they have no idea, you cannot calculate how far the ball is over the line (if at all) without a side on angle.
