Is it just me or does the milky bar kid and his mate Swan have some sort of agenda to say the words responsible, important and irresponsible every time a TV camera is in their face?

Are these buffoons really trying to impress us by saying that they are responsible, responsible responsible… me I’ve had a gutful of listening to these morons.
All you people who voted for a change for change’s sake happy? 40% tax on mining profits is absolutely bloody stupidity and will ruin this country. BHP and RIO may make big profit but they also have big spending and bigger risks. Does the govt not realise the amount of people and small companies directly or indirectly involved in the mining industry? They say they’re trying to help small business - all they will do is screw small/med business even more.
Hope they have plenty of coin in the bank for all the people on the dole due to this poxy tax

Surely the common sense approach would be to tax the Big 4 banks, not the mining operations that kept this country from going into recession like the rest of the world during the GFC

The Milky Bar Kid is THE Worst PM in history and we need change NOW (unforunately his snakey mate Abbott doesn’t seem too bright either)

I’ll come clean again and say that I was one of the disillunsioned fools that help get this idiot into power - little did I know.  Does he really think the mining companies are just going to roll over and cop it right up the date?  WA will pay for the fool’s pipe dreams.  I don’t like Abbott, but at this stage, he’s got my vote - unless they can talk little Johnny into coming back!!

I also voted for the Labor paty and will do again.
Are you the same people who constantly complain about te bloody Japanese and bloody Chinese who keep taking all out money out of the country!!!
I know I am sick of all the profits from OUR commodities being shipped out of the country and getting not very much back.We have had our recourses raped and pillaged by them since Pig Iron Bob sold pig iron to the Japanese. So it could be used and fired back at our troops.
If the Japanese and the Chinese don’t like it,leave it in the ground and when they HAVE to have it then let them have it at OUR price.
Why should we ramain the pit slaves for the Japanese and the Chinese.
I say good on ya Ruddy.

you guys just don’t get it do you. Do you live a nice healthy financially secure life? If so then thank the resources industry.

Fact of the matter is Milky wants to milk the Iron Ore/Coal companies for as much as he can for the “Australian people” as apparently it’s “the responsible” thing to do.
He says super will be increased ra ra ra, does he not know that super is run by the stock market and that the market crashed big time when this tax was announced ruining everyone’s super!!!

Surely the responsible thing to do would be to monitor the banks and ensure we are not getting ripped off, obviously the Govt think that the banks are not doing anything wrong. So banks can rip the Australian people off (that is ALL Australian’s) and can post massive profits and thats ok, but the mining companies who kept this country from going into recession and has made this economy the best in the world has to suffer.

Everyone has their own opinion, but sorry, those who think the Milky Bar Kids super tax is good for Aust are deluded

Well I dont think a footy gospip place is a place to talk about how our country is run, but answer me this where do the vast majority of profits from `OUR` resources go to ? do they stay here or go overseas? thats what the liberal party have always given us, and one more thing mr abbott in his early political days, was involved with a group with `NAZI` ties, dont beleive me do some research as I did.
now thats enough for me on this subject, I dont usually talk about my leanings on this subject. I only open and read stories relating to football that interest me, and thats what I will be going back to.

Well Charlie the simple answer is the profits go to the investers.
You know the people who put the money in at the start and took the risk. As it should..

With the new tax all that will happen is that these people will now put their money in overseas investments where they won’t be raped by a government who history has shown cannot operate a childs piggy bank.

Liberal get in power
Country goes through boom.
Country goes out of debt with huge reserves of money.

Public get sick of things so good
Vote Labour in.
Boom falls over
Country goes into deficit
Labour put up everything to cover their stuff ups.
Public falls for it and votes them in for second term.

Public finally wakes up from their sleep.
Vote Liberal back in.
Spend first term just sorting out the financial disaster left by Labour,
Country stabilisers, boom starts to occur again.
Things are looking good again.
Term after term the country grows and prospers.

Public hate anything going well and push for change for no reason.
Vote labour in, cycle continues.

Like bloody clockwork it is.

Thanks for your interest KR.

Yes, I have both.

I also have a hopefully better than naive understanding of how economic cycles work, and the rights for a country (and its citizens) to obtain a fair return for the minerals it supplies to the companies who make super profits therefrom (eg iron ore from US$27/tonne to nearly $200/tonne over the past 6 years).

I also read that the superannuation industry has generally applauded the proposed new tax.

Lastly, I note Charlie’s comments - this is a footy forum, so you can continue your political diatribes and hoary myths with the rest of the rusted-on Howard worshipers.  LOL

Australians OWN our resources not BHP or Rio

52% of Mining Profits end up in London - more should stay here.

BHP are already taxed 43% how much more do you want them to be taxed, do you expect them to work for free???
Sorry but I like my pay packet and bonuses and with this tax it will stuff at least our bonuses up.

So do you know howmuch it costs BHP and RIO in order to dig up the earth, and send it to those who want to buy it?
Where did you read the supre industry applauded this proposal - I haven’t seen or heard anything on this? Not saying you are incorrect but just haven’t seen anything on it.
I fail to see that super would benefit from a decreased share market on the resources industry due to these taxes

Sorry but this is general discussion, meaning anything can be discussed, if you don’t want to talk about it then don’t read or writeanything
And I’m no Howard worshipper, I actually voted the other way but I have to say he did get this country running smoothly, now look at the mess we’re in Boat People is just one example
