Just wondered just how many first choice players out of the best 22 were missing tonight for Subiaco.

8, 10, 14, the entire 22 . . ?

East Perth had 13 of the best 22 missing . . so we’re well pleased with the win. But we’re realistic enough to realise results don’t mean anything at this stage of the season.

Is it true that they gave Campbell number 8, Smith’s old number?

LOL if it’s true

Didn`t get to the game ,so am not sure who was missing, but I do know that neither rix or newick played(without a doubt the two best ruckmen in the WAFL)but it was only a scratch match as you say, wont get a good idea until the real stuff starts.

Is it true Fletcher is going travelling this year?....Sort of depletes Subi’s midfield stocks don’t you think?

Fletcher will play with us this year but I believe he missed most of pre-season. Kiwi is in number 8 Skidda wore number 2 which I think I saw Kerr wearing. Stack has been given Ali’s number 13. Parker Newick Read Fletcher Cockie Cossom and Rix were the ones I noticed were missing. Our QAFL recruits looked average so too did Kiwi but its only a warm up game. Bristow played well and looks like he is in for a big season. Heard a whisper that Marty Smith arrived back last night and will play for us this year.

Thanks outerseagull. Seems like many of your best ‘on-ballers’ were missing . . and that makes a big difference at both ends of the ground. Probably explains why EP had 21 scoring shots to just 7.

But a warning to whoever said Subiaco had the strongest ruck pair. Watch out for East Perth . . for we now have Beeck (averaged more hit-outs than Rix last year), and Clarke from Freo. Plus last night our 3rd string ruckman (the former state amateur captain, I think) handled himself well.

What seemed pretty clear last night, even in the absence of key players in the midfield, was that Subiaco may well struggle to kick big scores this year. Are Subi fans concerned about the goalkicking strength (or apparent lack of it) in the team?

e
you could be right royalblood, royals were very impressive and subi’s forward line could be our achilles heal this year.
recruiting campbell - fmd. i rate him like macdougall from perth. untold ability, heart the size of a pea, and missing in action when the heats on

On the mark RB, hard to get a line on both clubs with so many first picks out of both teams but your boys looked further along with their prep, better foot and hand skills apart from the goal shooting, much more direct in their play, our blokes were completely handball happy and got themselves into trouble consistently.

As for the forward line goes, yes we will struggle after losing so much talent and experience in that area. Was confused with Muddy using big Steve Martin as a Fullback. The lad was the 2nd best FF at the club after Skid and regularly kicked bags in the 2’s so he needs to be given a good run at FF. Once the regulars come back in the backs and mid-field will be amongst the leagues strongest and will provide the forwards with plenty of ball but a big question over how well they will capitalise on it. Your guys played well drilled disciplined footy which comes from having the coach you have, along with Dimmer the best in the comp imo.

I have no doubt you guys will still be in the mix this season . . so long as your senior players like Fletcher and Read stay injury free. One additional factor in Friday night’s game was that much of East Perth’s preparation was carried out by Cam Shepherd. I suspect he had an insight or two into individual players at The Lions and perhaps the remnants of the game plan from last year. Might have contributed to the result . . who knows.

Team lists with guernsey numbers were on each club’s website. They should still be there if you want to see who was listed to play and any changes to numbers for this year...assuming they’re the numbers they’ll play in this year

[ Our QAFL recruits looked average so too did Kiwi but its only a warm up game. Bristow played well and looks like he is in for a big season.

Saw the Peel game although it looked as though Peel switched teams with Subi playing the Ressies and most of Peel players in the ressies. Once again Qld recruits did not perform as one would have expected lets hope they improve.  Saw Webby turn up at the game half way through the first quarter, now thats what I call a good ex leader in that heat. Good to see some of the ressies from last years been given a go although most played at least one game last year, cant see how Bletchy got a game does’nt seem to be able to get out of first gear, but then again the family seems to around the club . Any news on Josh Watson from last year looked handy across the half back flank, also young KEENE played ther first sratchy in the league. Any truth that the ressies had just enough to field a team on the weekend, where is the depth. Looking forward to this weekend lets hope more of the local junior players are rewarded for their long effort at the club.

The Starting Lineup Round 2 v Joondalup

Forrest, Parker, Stack
Randall, Rumble, Smith
Webb, Hilderbrandt, Bristow
Adamson-Holmes, Roper, Cockie
Read, Campbell, Broadhurst
Rix, Fletcher, Hasset
Newick, Phelan, Horsley, Moores

It’s okay, but is it final 4 material?

Final 4? Yes on paper, but your going to need to keep that side together for the majority of the 20 games..Injuries to key players will be telling as will the impact of Campbell..

Also, isn’t the above still overseas??? I would suggest it’s doubtful @ best that he’ll suite up for you guys that early in the season…
