They ARE NOT ILLEGALS; we are a signatory to the UN charter on refugees and therefore, they have a LEGAL right to seek refugee status in Australia. Start on the ones who are ILLEGALS - the ones who overstay their visas; most of whom, if not all, don’t arrive in leaky boats.

thats my opinion 42...if they choose to travel all the way to Australia by-passing several other countries on the way which could also offer safe refuge then imo they are ecomomic migrants and not refugees. as they dont have the necessary visa to migrate, they become illegal immigrants.

Whether you like it or not, they are not allowed to live in our country (hence why they aren’t released from Christmas Island) until they are given the thumbs up. Legally, they may not be ‘illegal immigrants’, but they haven’t exactly been welcomed or proven their right to continue living here legally.

Yep, I have spoken to many Poms here who are dismayed at the immigrant situation back home. Some of them left with that as a main reason. I can see us heading the same way.
Nothing wrong with them coming here for a better life, but they are taking jobs, housing, taxpayer funds and other opportunities from people born here, and that is not right. We need to sort out our own homeless and people waiting on 6 year waiting lists with homeswest, before trying to find a place for the people arriving in droves by dinghy.

We have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, therefore we have a moral obligation to accept them. Don’t send troops = no obligation.
