If Matthew Stokes if found guilty of the charges laid against him I hope the AFL comes down harder on Geelong than they did on the Eagles. Anything less than the pounding the Eagles got from the AFL would be hypocrisy. Unfortunately I can see Andrew and Adrian getting a wet lettuce leaf ready to slap the Cats over the wrist with.
If Cousin’s actions brought the game into disrepute then a guilty verdict on the charges laid against Stokes would do that and a whole lot more.
That depends on what the CATS knew mate.If they’d known for some time he was a Dealer and did nothing, then they might have a case to answer.
I don’t think COOK would have let things get as far as they did, seeing what had happened at the Eagles.Did they Tip Off the Cops themselves?Who knows, but I reckon the papers will have a FIELD DAY.
Just hope PIERS AKERMAN doesn’t open his Gob and Get HIGH and MIGHTY about it in the SMELLYGRAPH!Seem to remember some guy called KINKY FRIEDMAN all those years ago, making some reference about
“Flying on all kinds of Substances in the closet.”

While I have no sympathy for Stokes (noting he is charged and not yet found guilty, but certainly not looking good) can you please remind me of exactly what was the “pounding” the weagles got from the AFL.
And grassy has made very valid points about whether or not Geelong had knowledge. And I don’t at all the theory that if he was selling drugs the club had to know. This one seems to have come straight out of the blue.
The Cousins stench had been around for years and in the end no great surprise to anyone was the result.

As i said in another thread i have no sympathy for Stokes. Maybe the diff between Cats and Eags in this case is that as this stage it is one player. Eags had multiple players “suspected”, thats before some other unsavoury off field incidents had happened

I think it’s a bit different than the Eags episode unk. I believe that the WCE operated under the old “inhouse” theory that has been around for a hundred years. The media, looking for a bit of sensationalism were relentless and the WCE paid a price, as they should have. That’s why I think the Cats are innocent here. No club (you would think) would deliberately cover something like this up. (Maybe the 2 ‘C’ clubs would!) People have no sympathy for Stokes...I do. We all form an opinion before we know the real story, or know the real reasons. Some people (plenty on this site), suddenly jump on their “holier than thou” soap boxes. For me, the boy’s mistake is a naive indiscretion until the full story comes out. Let’s not hang him for stealing an apple untill it’s proved he stole the whole barrel. If he’s as bad as the press is saying, then I’ll change my stance.

Back off with the “2 “c” clubs” Bullshit.
One word...Cocaine
EVERYONE knows cocaine is illegal, therefore Stokes is guilty as charged.
Problem with punishment is the whole WCE/Cousins affair - we now have a major issue here, Cousins was and (finally) admitted to being a drug addict, yet only got a 12mth ban and came back a **** hero.
This kid apparently bought a mate 1 gram of coke (I find this hard to believe) how could anyone be so stupid...bad luck suspend him for a 12mth period, same as Cousins....end of story

Stupidity is NOT limited to anyone, or any particular club. I cant believe Didak or Shaw were that “stupid” either.

So what are you saying,"supplying is the same as using”
I don’t usually repond to posts in here,or in other clubs sites but want to put in my opinion on this issue.
First off I believe that the two incidents are like chalk and cheese.
The Eagles I am sure knew they had a major problem at the club, but did nothing about it,tried to hide it from all.Sat on their hands.Every Joe Blow who knew anything about football knew that there was a problem at the Eagles, everyone that is except the Eagles heirachy. If you can believe them.
It even got to the stage where they allegedly threatend the press with being black banned if they ran the story.
They had not one player, but as many as eight admit to Worsfold they were involved with drugs. One was a repeat offender in more ways than one.
The Stokes issue has been handled immediately by the Geelong football club.Stokes has been suspended from all club activities indefinately. The player Stokes, will,I have no doubt,be given the bums rush by the AFL and rightly so.But I am sure Geelong will be left alone, though as someone else here said they must surely be beginning to fly close to the breeze and have sanctions put upon them.Even Carlton must be in the same boat.

hance
west coast in the end got their just deserts. so what happened with hawthorn??? that farken hypocrite kennett who is the ?? blue spokeman didn’t want to know when his beloved club came under fire. how many of their players are on their last last chance
We won’t know until someone’s STUPID(and maybe ARROGANT)enough to get FOUND OUT a 3rd time and then the SHIT HITS THE FAN.
Just out of interest, has it ever been depicted in the Pressas to how Big a Packet,1 gram of Cocaine is?Sounds small in any language,1.But in terms of COCAINE.......
1 grams fark all, but he was under surveillance for 4 months apparently with recorded conversations.not the sort of carry on when you get 1 gram for mate.
yep you could be right there, getting in early to save his bacon - so to speak.
so after bagging cousins for not naming the “""major plaYERS""", what would you be seeking from stokes.
after all he aint a bomber player so your thoughts wouldnt conflict??????????????????
going on previous form you will want names otherwise the player is forever banished
Well, young Stokes will have his chance to do a Deal with the Prosecution and still keep his Career going,or.........
Hope he’s SMART and TURNS ‘EM IN!And if they TOUCH Him for it,they’d better get out of GEEELONG before they get LYNCHED!
If I knew more about LOVETT(albeit on a different matter) at his SHENNANIGANS at ESSENDON,I may have been TONY GREIG like in calling for his SACKING!That is without the worry of being called a HYPOCRITE like GREG CHAPPELL Labelled him so after UNDERARM!
