Thats correct sgreer. Except you missed Div 2 Clubs Midland, Osborne Park, Warwick, Murdoch…

The mercantile is a development league for clubs to grow and then move to WAAFL or clubs that like to play on a Sunday.

There was some talk that Cockburn, Jandakot, Midland and Innaloo will be looking to get 2 sides to add to those clubs Kwiniana, Noranda, and Yanchep that currently do.

Any news on the gradings, team news, new clubs, recruits ?

2009 Div 1: Ladders after home and away.
Wooroloo
Noranda ECU
Yanchep
Cockburn
Kwinana
Jandakot
Kingsway
Dwellingup

2009 Div 2:
Midland
Innaloo
Warwick Greenwood
Kwinana 2s
Osborne Park
Noranda ECU 2s
Yanchep 2s
Murdoch University

I think Dickyboy mentioned that Jandakot Jets will have a 2nd team and stay in Mercantile for 2010. I think Mercantile is a good stepping stone for clubs that do want to move over to WAAFL or to play on Sundays.

I think Dickyboy mentioned that Jandakot Jets will have a 2nd team and stay in Mercantile for 2010.

That’s correct - at this stage Jandakot hope to have a second side in the Mercantile - we will have Colts in the Amateurs.  We actually play a large number of Saturday night games where last season we had upto 1000 in the crowd (usually having a lead in Juniors night game and 1/2 time Auskick etc).

It is also ALOT cheaper to field a side in the Mercantile competition as well - resulting in VERY VERY low fee’s for players.

That said - Community Football are formalising Mercantile alot more now and with League assigned umpires (compared to lower WAAFL grades) and basically the same off-field structures and support as the WAAFL it is better run each season.

Anyone wanting to have a run with the Jets are welcome to contact the club:

Training starts January 28th.

So is the plan with the Jets to continue to in both competitions or will they go completely to amateurs in 2011 ( with the league’s blessing)?

Hiya, I can’t answer that… But basically we now have either option open to us; 2010 we intended to be 1 team in either grade as we feel that the majority of footballers want Saturday Football, but we wanted to respect those footballers than came to us because they had to play Sundays.

The WAAFL are keen for new clubs to enter with established League & Reserve sides.  Fair enough.

As was done this year; towards the end of the season the members will vote on the way forward.

In the meantime we’ll do our best to attract players to our club by offering a safe family environment, tight integration with a successful Junior club, Saturday night games and amazing members discounts and benefits.

Good luck. Hopefully our two clubs will intersect on a saturday night in the next 5 years.
