Typical over hype by WA media....put him all over the sports pages and channel Eagles and before we know it he’s the Toast’s saviour. NicNat is over-rated and is being lumbered with unrealistic expectations at this point in his career given I dont think he’s all that good to start with. Talk about putting pressure on the guy...he hardly got a kick last week and was found wanting again today...but he’ll come out next week and do something which wouldnt even get a mention if it was anyone else and be annointed once again as the next best thing until the truth finally sinks in. More potential than Daniel Rich, give me a break.

The HYPE probably comes from EAGLES Fans, whi had newver seen him,Ranger. They were casting DOUBTS on him beforehand.Why/Because they NEVER Bothered seeing him play WAFL.DICKHEADS!
He is 1 Man from the opposition(Whomever that is),I’d pay at the Gate to see in action. He’ll have his Bd ones, but he had a Few Partners in Crime yesterday,no doubt.

Rokeby similar to Tim Gossage it is really time that you got over Rich being picked behind Naitanui and Hill. The final assessment will not be known probably for another five years.
Lets look at the three players.
Rich - good midfielder in a team that was playing well until last night and along with most of his team mates he went missing. Probable future, a long term AFL player who will not bring one extra fan to specifically watch him play.
Hill - exciting and great potential - well worth going to see and a potential match winner but whether he can turn that into consistent performances over an extended career we will have to wait and see.
Naitanui - a 6’6” rover who does not read the play well but can do things that no other player of his size can do. Will have many days like yesterday but will also do some freakish things similar to a couple of plays in the last quarter against Hawthorn. Almost a corporate decision by the Eagles because of his marketability but at least five years before we will know just how good he is.
The argument is really getting a bit tiresome when all three have something to offer. Let’s just watch them develop and fill in the report card again in five years time when Rokbey and Tim may well be proven right.

Sounds about right grassroots, except Naitanui is about 6’8” now.

wellsy24 - 04 July 2009 09:25 AM TooManyMelbourneTeams - 03 July 2009 08:56 PM I think a big key in the game v Hawthorn was (at least it looked like it at the ground) Hurn taking over Nicoski’s role as the man to go through to get a target on or outside the defensive 50m line. His accuracy and long kicking was great to watch. Seems to be very assured.
If I recall, he had 20-25 possessions at 100% accuracy - not a bad bloke to play ‘quarterback’.
When he is going to play gridiron?

reggie - 04 July 2009 09:13 PM TooManyMelbourneTeams - 04 July 2009 08:37 PM reggie - 04 July 2009 07:55 PM How did the 2009 Rising Star Winner go this week?
Hard to predict which one - but likely he had a low possession game for Brisbane in a losing team.
You’re right on one count, not sure that it’s so hard to predict.
I don’t reckon we’ll hear much from Swan42 after his tip scored the big donut in the kick column this week. Everyone can hold their hysteria for a little while yet, NicNat will be good but give him time please
As I was at Basso watching Swans on Saturday afternoon I obviously didn’t see his game against Melbourne. From my perspective the fact that he didn’t get a kick is a positive. That is, he didn’t choose the Cox easy way any sit out on his own 40 metres from anyone and get a cheap kick.
As has been pointed out by others Natanui is a player who will get people going to the football to watch him. The say can’t be said of Rich. What is more pertinent is how good/bad a coach is Worsfold? Similarly how good/ bad are the Eagles players overall? Also, I don’t recant from my previous comments.

Pretty big call taking a pot shot at Cox isn’t it? The guy is a champion and has been for many years.
As for Natanui well we all hope the young bloke goes on to play some great football and have a good career. If he ends up half as good as Cox he would have done wonderfully well.

There is a fair chance Naitanui will play for SD this week..... Gardiner will smash him if he continues his form. No kicks in a game of footy is pretty average.

You are perhaps the only person in football who suggests Cox looks for easy kicks.
4 consecutive All-Australian teams and a club fairest & best would tend to suggest you don’t know sh1t from jam.

GWS it is my opinion that a ruckman should be using his weight to force a passage for the smaller blokes rather than sitting 30-40 metres from other players in order to get some cheap kicks.

You are entitled to your opinion Swan, I just don’t agree that Cox plays for cheap kicks.
I actuallt can’t name a current AFL ruckman that does what you suggest they should be doing.
My only ever criticism of Cox is that he does not take enough pack marks. But he has been used as an extra Midfielder type of player because he is capable of playing that role where as most other ruckman can’t play that role.
I don’t want a ruckman that knocks the ball and then chases after it as young Natanui does at this stage, he just is getting in the way of the midfielders. He will learn and has to accept that he is a ruckman or a KPP. Not a midfielder and never ever will be. He will learn as he is a young player.

It is a bit hard to take a pack mark when there is no-one near you!

Agree with GWS, I dont know why there is all this critisism about cox, he is a champ, runs his guts out for his team and as I said before some others should take a leaf out of his book. Also dont know why there is all this critisism about naitinui either he is only 19 and played only 3 games its quite clear he has heaps of talent lets see how he is going in 2 or 3 years time as we know ruckmen always take a bit of time to devolop. More concerning is our clearly evident lack of pace and fletcher and stenglein are not going to help in that area ! Is stenglein the slowest player in the AFL or what ?
