If you guys have noticed, Hawksta hasn’t been saying very much of anything lately, he knows his team is on the way down. NO EXCUSES, NOTHING TO SAY! While I am loving every minute of beating those so called “reigning premiers”, it is even sweeter when you beat crooked umpires as well. SAY WHAT YOU WANT, THE UMPIRES WERE TERRIBLE. of course they even up free kicks towards the end of the game to make stats look better but that was disgraceful umpiring last night, it seems the hawks are a protected species also!

Deb I agree with you the umpires were appalling with their favouring of the Eagles.  I am not sure it even up at all.  Interesting hands in the back decisions given there was no free awarded against Medhurst earlier in the day.

Sorry, I can’t resist ‘I told you so’ with respect to Natanui - the 2009 Rising Star winner.

And spare a thought for Jack Watts. He was all at sea again this weekend. Not sure if he is taking a little more time to adjust or playing for Melbourne is really hurting his development?

Positive. Afl.com.au or footywire.com.au if you want to check

The difference was our efficiency - the handball-happy game plan will work well when we actually hit targets and run to receive.

Hawksta quotes to check for accuracy at the end of 2010 season:

“Flag is ours next year, fully fit and unbeatable except by a stray cat maybe if there lucky, but all in all i cant really see who else will be able to challenge us!”

“the Dockers are the team to watch from the west next year not the budgies and their incompetant players and coaching”

“Others will improve more than the eagles, north and port to name a few”

What a win by the ever improving young eagles. NikiNat is going to be a star, has the ability to rise when the pressure is on. The Hawks were embarrassing to say the least. TOP 4 IS OUT FOR SURE. WILL THEY SLIP INTO THE 8?

Put it in the right perspective, The Eagles beat a team who will not finish any higher than 10th and winning a premiership to where they are now means diddly squat.

I think you are forgetting that we are shit. How’s that for perspective?

That would be right you are a shit team that beat an even shittier team

Let me put it in reality, wouldn’t Rich be that far ahead at this stage, and 1 quarter does not make a superstar only 3 touches to 3/4 time.

Experts think it will be Rich at this stage because he has played every game and is consistent rather than popping up and doing a few flashy things.

Taking nothing away from Nico though he is going to be a superstar once he gets a few more games under his belt.

I think a big key in the game v Hawthorn was (at least it looked like it at the ground) Hurn taking over Nicoski’s role as the man to go through to get a target on or outside the defensive 50m line.  His accuracy and long kicking was great to watch.  Seems to be very assured.

Just need to be careful that you don’t expect too much too soon - the saviour for the club. He is still very raw & has alot to learn about the game. Rich is a more natural footballer whilst Nic has alot more potential (and that is all it is at this stage - potential). What happens if against Melbourne (the bottom team) he plays a shocker?

If I recall, he had 20-25 possessions at 100% accuracy - not a bad bloke to play ‘quarterback’.

How did the 2009 Rising Star Winner go this week?

Hard to predict which one - but likely he had a low possession game for Brisbane in a losing team.

You’re right on one count, not sure that it’s so hard to predict.

I don’t reckon we’ll hear much from Swan42 after his tip scored the big donut in the kick column this week. Everyone can hold their hysteria for a little while yet, NicNat will be good but give him time please
